Zero to Eighty in Twenty minutes

Me and Neta were the ones involved. After we gave up on a problem statement of Project-X, there was nothing at all to indulge in at Wavez 2007 (the annual cul-tech festival of Dept. of Ocean Engg.). Neta proposed the idea of coffee. Now, let me introduce him to you. He is a coffee freak. However hot the weather be, he is always ready for a cup of steaming coffee. He loves black coffee. And coffee and Neta and coffee and Neta and so on…We asked Bachcha for 10 bucks. When someone is seriously engaged in some important activities, he usually doesn’t care about petty things, like lending 10 bucks to someone who is never gonna return. So, we managed to get 10.

But I was reluctant for a coffee. I wanted some cool refreshing drink. Ice Tea would cost us 10 bucks, that meant we needed more cash. This time I went to Khajju (a senior, who was overseeing all the events of Wavez) and asked for 10 bucks.

“Sutta maarna hai?”

“Nahi yaar, coffee.”

He searched his pockets and handed me few coins, totally amounting to 10. Now, we were 20 bucks richer than we started.

On our way out, we saw MMS. Neta thought of paining him and asked him foor 10 bucks. To our utter amazement, he pulled out his wallet and gave me a 10 rupee note! This, we least expected. But all was fair, so long we had cash coming in!

Now, armed with 30 rupees, we set out for some cool drink. En-route, I suddenly recalled that
I had to fill certain ASES form and it was the last day. So we headed for DoMS (Dept. of Management Studies) to get the forms. The coffee freak who was silent all the way, now spoke. “There’s CCD beside DoMS!” I liked his idea but we had only 30 bucks , which was not sufficient for two of us.

We continued cycling. Nearing DoMS, we met Bhondu. He too had gone to DoMS for the forms, but the office was closed. We had to fill the forms, and it was the last day, so we had to think of something.

Bhondu: “Shruti has some unfilled forms. I will ask her to get them.”

Now that we saw the problem of getting forms being solved, CCD lured us. We asked Bhondu to ask Shruti for some cash. But we couldn’t talk to her, the call failed. We tried from each of our phones but no success. Next, we tried Pranava, who also might have forms, we believed. But she didn’t receive the call. We were thinking what to do. Bhondu asked Neta to ring Tamanna. Very well! The coffee freak talked to her and apparently forgot about the forms, and asked her to come downstairs with 30 bucks! To add to this, he kept chuckling after ending the call, as if everything was achieved.

Soon enough Tamanna appeared, 30 bucks in hand. We gladly accepted and requested her to get ASES forms from Shruti or Pranava.

In the meanwhile, I got a message from Pranava. She said that she was sleeping. I called her and asked about the forms. She said that she will send them. Soon after, Tamanna brought us the forms.

Now, we had the forms and we had 60 bucks. 20 bucks for each of us. But that was not sufficient, was it? We were thinking of adding to our earnings, and we saw Harshita. She was returning after some shopping and had heavy bags with her. We asked her for twenty bucks and she readily handed us two ten rupee notes.

Content finally, we headed straight to CCD with 80 bucks, ten of it in coins. We ordered, enjoyed our drinks, and when the bill came, it dawned upon us that we had totally forgot the tax while ordering. Luckily, we had chosen our drinks worth 78 rupees and with the tax, the bill read Rs. 80.00 !!!
