August times

August had never been such. This is the fourth year I am working for Shaastra, IIT Madras’ technical festival. The amount of work in August has since varied a lot: nil in first year, to a small amount in second year, to an increased amount in third year and to a completely new height in fourth year.

Being responsible for one complete department in the festival is a big responsibility, and a nice one. I discussed it with my predecessor, only to realize that that making work fun is a great way to keep the creativity and spirits going. Of course Shaastra this year will be a huge step above all previous instances, given a plethora of new, challenging ventures being tried and implemented. So the work involved has also increased quite a bit.

Given this fact, the very thing that keeps me going is that my team delivers. It may take innumerable night-outs, it may involve meeting constant regular, short-notice demands, it may take eight-hour meeting sessions, it may consume huge efforts to get things going in spite of the 12-midnight to 2pm absence of internet, it may take whatever it takes, but when you see a great job resulting after all this, a smile flashes across your lips, however exhausted you are. More so, when the work is appreciated by someone who has been in the game (and mastered it) for a long time. Here is a poster for Shaastra 2008, (with pride, I say) a technical festival with unmatched scale and quality:
